Job Alternatives That Pay Handsomely

I am a trivia collector who loves little bits of useless trivia that could at some point become useful, provided the situation or opportunity comes up.  I guess you could say I'm actually a trivia hoarder.  But seriously, how do those winners on Jeopardy do it?  They are trivia junkies to the max and they retain the uselessful facts very well

For your trivia pleasure, here are some strange jobs that pay really big!  Think about it, if you have a talent in any one of these areas, you could make big money.  That could mean holding you over during a hard time, keeping you motivated in life, using that unusual skill that you've developed or obtaining that extra something that you've always wanted!  So pay attention -

1)  Shot Girl - That is the one who prepares test tube sized shots of tequila and Jello.  They are paid 25 cents per shot that they sell, plus tips.  That could translate into $300 to $600 per night.

2)  Diver - Are you good at diving?  A pearl diver will make $500 per day and above in America.  It does come with risks, however!  And a deep sea oil and gas diver will earn you around $80,000 per year.

3) Submarine Cook - Also related to the deep sea, this position is considered to be invaluable to the navy.  In Austrailia you could earn $200,000 per year.  You just need 6 years of cooking on the sea to be considered.

4) Lipstick Reader - This woman will read lip prints at teas and parties.  They tell about the personalities and future prospects of their subjects.  Earnings are $25 to $50 per hour!

5) Voice-Over Work - Just 5 minutes of dubbing audio for audios or commercials could bring in $500.  Even novices can make up to $80,000 per year!

6) Human Statue - This job has been around forever and is still really popular at theme parks and promotional events.  You could make $25 to $200 per hour!  Required:  You must be able to hold still for long periods of time!

7)  Human Scarecrow - Help out a farmer, make $10 to $15 an hour!  Very strange!

8) Survey Group Participant - You will be a part of an offline group and required to give your opinion on products and services.  As such, you could make between $40 and $100 per hour.  In the same category would be a mystery shopper, who could make $100 on one assignment!

9)  Movie or T.V. Extra - Hob nob with your favorite star as an extra and get paid $200 per day.  Sometimes the conditions can be a little extreme, i.e. standing around in hot or cold rooms and sets.

10) Crime Scene Cleaner - Obviously not always a savory kind of job, but you could start at $35,000 and end up with a 6-figure income!

11) T.V. Watcher - Wow, I could excel at this one, I think!  One watches T.V. to provide ratings or write subtitles.  Starting salary?  $25,000.

12)  Waterslide Tester - Get a great salary and travel to fun locations too!  Must love to frolic in water!

Wow, some of these jobs seem to need special skills obtained through other modes of employment or recreation.  But some of them come quite naturally for me.  I believe I have a special talent for giving my opinion, shopping and watching T.V.  I might have to check these out!

Also, because of my love of trivia, expect to see more posts like this!  A GAL NEEDS...mindless trivia to fill her mind because one never knows when she'll need it!

A Statement T-Shirt from Small Home Design!

Sometimes I just want to make a statement!  But I'm not an in your face type of gal.  In fact, I'm rather reticent, not unlike one of my favorite authors, Jane Austen.  Lindsay, at Small Home Design on Etsy captured it amazingly well in this t-shirt she designed and which caught my eye.   I love the statement our friend Jane made so well in Pride and Prejudice...."I do not want people to be agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them."  So aptly put, and so passively aggressively beautiful!
Then on top of that, put it in neon pink to fluff it up even more.

I love it. But is it too much?
Okay, I thought about it and it's obvious, sometimes you just need to say it!!!!

Do you have a statement that you need to lay out to the world in a beautifully designed t-shirt, towel, or bag?  You need to check out Small Home Design!  Anything from your favorite recipe to a poem that speaks to you--Lindsay will put it onto something that will speak to the world for you!  Or check out her own designs.  She's got several great Jane Austen quotes and some from 'Mean Girls' and many other great pieces in her inventory.

A Flash #Giveaway For $25 Visa Gift Card

This is a flash giveaway for a $25 Visa Gift Card.  I'm doing this for my husband since he is such a great guy. (At least this week he was, a total sweetie!)  So I am going to sit down and babysit a Flash Giveaway today!  Good thing I love it or my Saturday would be shot, I say, absolutely shot!

He is a huge fan of disc golf.   I support his hobby because I think disc golf is really great.  It's fun for the family, it's fairly inexpensive (no green fees on most disc golf courses yet!), it is a safe sport so I don't have to worry about him dying or getting injured unless he dies in the car while enroute to the park and it keeps him active instead of being an armchair spectator.  I like to play disc golf with Greg at least 4 times a month when the weather is good.  Some people are crazy and will play all year round!

Getting my  game on!
If you'd like to learn about disc golf, a good start would be here and  here.  It's called disc golf because it's played with a disc as opposed to a frisbee.  The disc is designed to fly further, but not designed to catch because it is very hard plastic.  Score is kept like golf, thus the name.
Please enter for a chance to win a $25 Visa Gift Card and to support the growth of a great sport! Giveaway will end 4/20/13 at 6:01 EST!  Must be over 18 to play.  Open to U.S. and Canada!   a Rafflecopter giveaway

Flavorful Brocolli Chicken Skillet

I've noticed that many times men are better impromptu cooks than women.  When it comes to throwing together a good meal in a small amount of time, my husband is the winner.  He put together a brocolli chicken skillet in a very minimal amount of time 2 days ago.  It was delicious and nutritious! Here's what he did:

1) Cut up two chicken breasts and cook them in olive oil in a large skillet until tender yet moist.
2) While chicken is cooking, break down one bunch of brocolli and cook in a medium wok with a cup of water.
3)  After chicken is almost done, add chopped onion, bell pepper and garlic into the skillet.  Continue cooking until all vegetables are tender.  Add some Parmesan cheese, a generous amount of pepper and salt to taste.
4) When brocolli is tender, add it to the chicken mixture. Enjoy!

How easy and tasty is that?

A Great Spring Jacket! An eShakti Review

There's a song that comes to mind as I write this post.  It's called 'Short Skirt Long Jacket' by Cake!  Oh heck, let's just put it up!  Let the music put you in the mood as you read the post!

There's something appealing to me about this song.  And eShakti brought me as close as I'll ever come to that description.  This jacket is all business and strictly for spring.  But if you ever want to be a bit more formal but fun, this jacket will bring it!!!

So there you have it, my foray into the realm of "touring the facility and picking up slack" because I have a short skirt and a looooong jacket!! LOL!
eShakti has great pieces that are customized for you, like this jacket was for me!  So if you haven't yet discovered this great website, go quickly!  They have a great spring inventory that just begs to be perused!
Right now through the 15th you can buy 3 dresses and get the 3rd on for free!

Disclosure:  I received product to review and all opinions are my own!

A New Flavor! Honey Bunches of Oats now with Greek Yogurt! {Review}

I have GOT to get my rave on about this particular new Post Cereal that I tried - Honey Bunches of Oats, Greek Honey Crunch, the operative word being Greek, as in Greek Yogurt!  I've always liked Post Cereals for their great taste, yet nutritious feel to them.  My favorite cereal used to be Post Spoon-Size Shredded Wheat.  Now it's hands-down Honey Bunches of Oats Greek Style!  It's made with Greek Yogurt, which gives it a distinctive sweet flavor that isn't too heavy!
I have two strapping boys over 16 years old and both over 200 lbs. They each could eat a box of cereal in one sitting.  But of course, I try not to let that happen 'cause I really like cereal too!  Now, if you could picture this scene at our house -  I casually mention I've got some cereal that I'm trying out and they can sample it too, if they'd like.  They ask me what kind. I tell them it's a new flavor of Honey Bunches of Oats. That's all I need to tell them. They're on it like shingles on a roof! They each pour themselves a huge bowl and at least a quart of milk on top and plop down on the sofa. I ask them how they like it and I get a few grunts and nods. That's about it. But in teen-age boy speak, that's a thumbs up! Did they care how nutritious it is, that it has 33 grams of whole grain per serving, that it has 0g of trans fat, 0mg of cholesterol and provides 12 essential vitamins and minerals, and 5g of protein? Not really. It's all about the taste and texture for them.
For me, I do care.  I don't like super sugary, sweet cereals, either.  If I want it sweet, I want to be the one to be able to regulate it to my taste, with the kind of sweetener I want.  I actually did add a teaspoon of brown sugar to my bowl and I was in heaven.  It was delicious!!  I Love the texture, kind of dense with smaller flakes and bigger greek yogurt covered chunks of granola.  And really, if I had to choose between say, apple pie or this cereal, I'd pick this cereal.  It's that good!  So maybe instead of dessert, I'll eat Honey Bunches of Oats Greek Honey Crunch, and then I could eat it at least twice a day, rationalization being a top trait of mine!
I enjoyed learning about how Vernon Herzing, a long-time employee of Post decided to experiment by combining a few of Post Cereals together and then gave it to his daughter to try.  When he saw her face light up, he knew he was on to something and really, that is how Honey Bunches Of Oats Cereal was created!   With this newest addition of Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal, the collection of wholesome goodness is ever-growing.  I'm wondering which one is your favorite of the 12?   You can also find out about your favorite cereals along with cool contests and deals on their Twitter site, @HBOatsLook them up on Facebook too!

Pinterest Help! #Recipe For Slow Cooker Spinach and Cheese Fritata.

Can I just be honest with you?  Sometimes I feel like the Amelia Bedelia of Cooking, Cleaning and Crafts.  When I try to cook, I usually leave out at least 1 ingredient; when I clean you can come behind me and wonder if I cleaned or left more of a mess, and my crafts are many but few are complete.  I guess that is what Adult ADHD leaves in its wake.  Don't get me wrong, I make some of the best Oatmeal Cookies ever and really, I think that's why my boss keeps me around.  I will occasionally bring some in to work and I am a huge hit for a day!
As most of you know, I am totally addicted to Pinterest.  If I spent as much time trying out what I pin, I'd have a lot of shiz done.  Unfortunately, I'm unbalanced in my Pinterest addiction.  I mainly pin things that I like, always intending to do it "soon".  But I'm on Spring Break and so I tried out a recipe for a Slow Cooker Spinach and Cheese Frittata.  I modified it slightly (because I'm the Amelia Bedelia of cooking!) It actually turned out very good!  I loved it and ate the whole thing in two different sittings the same day.  After all the whole thing only has 444 calories--that's a whole lot of eggs!  This is what I did:

I put 1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil in a pan and fried up 1/2 a large onion, and a clove of garlic until it was tender (around 5 minutes or so)

I then put all of the following plus the ones above together in a bowl and whisked them with a wire whisk--
  • 3 whole eggs
  • 3 egg whites, you must separate the yolks from the whites!

  • 1/4 tsp. white pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup red bell pepper, diced (that was my own little addition)
  • 3/4 cup medium chedder cheese (I should have used mozerella, but didn't have any)
  • 1 cup (packed) Spinach with stems removed (I should have used baby spinach, but didn't have any)
  • 2 Tbsp. 2% Milk (I should have used 1% milk, but you know....I didn't have any)
  • Salt To Taste
I greased my huge 6-quart Slow Cooker and put it all in on low for 2 hours.  (I could have easily put it in a 3-quart Slow Cooker, but that's still on my list of things to get.) I loved it!  Unfortunately, I made this a bit too soon after Easter because my dear husband turned up his nose at it because of all the deviled eggs that were eaten over the weekend.  Bummer!  I had to eat it all myself.  And truly, I think I've had my quota of eggs for awhile as well.  This recipe would realistically feed two.  If you want to feed a whole army of kids or people, I would double or triple it!

If you want to see the pin and the source I used, click here!
My rating:
Simple - 10 /10 (Even Amelia Bedelia can handle that one)
Healthy - 7/10 (because of the cheese)
Tasty -  7/10 (without the red bell pepper it would have been very bland, at least to my taste)
Family Appeal - 6/10 (husband turned it down)
Budget Friendly - 7/10 (eggs and cheese, had to throw away 3 yolks, although I'm sure there is something on Pinterest to show me how to use those 3 yolks somewhere else, so I won't waste them!)

I give it an overall rating of 37/50, with simplicity being the most appealing!

A Cute Baby Shower Gift!

This weekend was filled with a couple of family functions.  A baby shower and a birthday party, to be specific!  Both were so much fun, as they always are when either my sister or sister-in-law puts them on.  They have the talent for entertaining!  They put out such a great layout of food, decorations and calm serenity!  They go about their hostessing business, looking great and so organized.   If it was me, I would be a frazzled, resentful mess.  Everything would be half done, half baked, and  in a half-hearted state of semi-readiness. No, you wouldn't want to come to one of my parties.  On the other hand, I brought the cutest gift to the baby shower. No, I didn't make it, but it seems simple enough to do.  I thought I'd share it for the craftsy gals out there!  It's a baby girl owl!  It has rolled up newborn diapers, with a blanket, bib, changing pad, socks, wash rag, little hair bows, big daisies, attached with rubber band, ribbon and pipe cleaners.  I think it turned out so cute.  I have a friend who does these little gifts as a business.  I paid $20 for this one.  It was a huge hit at the shower!   Next time I think I'll make one!

Time To Laugh!

As I've mentioned before, I work in a Mild/Moderate Special Ed Remedial High School Classroom.  I love working there this year because everyday each boy (no girls this year) in that room will invariably do something to make me laugh at least once.  They are so funny!  The 3 of us that work in the room often comment that people just wouldn't believe the things that happen.  Troy and Shane are my co-workers and they are hilarious together as well.  Most of the time they play off of each other like the perfect comedy routine.  I often call them the modern day 'Laurel and Hardy'.  I usually come off the job having had a day full of laughs!  I consider myself fortunate because laughter is such a great thing!

According to the International Laughter Yoga Club (yep, you can do laughter yoga) laughter boosts the immune system, relieves pain, helps relieve depression, gives you a mini work-out, protects your heart by beneficially changing the way blood flows through the body, lowers blood pressure, improves breathing, and helps you lose weight!

So this past week has really been beneficial for me in terms of laughter therapy.  Just one example is when Troy and Shane found out that one of the boys in the classroom is deathly afraid of spiders and snakes.  It's so funny because this boy is normally rather full of himself in terms of thinking he is the tough alpha male in the class, but when he sees a snake or spider he freaks!  This week Troy rigged an elaborate pulley system to imitate a spider descending from the ceiling onto a desk.  As our boy was sitting at his desk, he lowered the fake spider slowly in front of him.  It produced the desired results, he totally went bizerk and it was a great laugh. Luckily, he was a great sport about it!
