Get After It + Motivating Monday

Every time my life seems to be starting to even out and thoughts that I might be able to get some great sleep sneaks into my sub-conscious, I know that I've just been served. Life is never going to be smooth and if someone else's life seems more desirable, I know it's all bunk!  Looking and wanting someone else's life only serves as a distraction from what I want to do, what I can Achieve for myself! So AFTER life happens, is when the goal achievement time happens. Achieving goals comes after all the other stuff comes piling in on you. It's after you've put in a day's work just to break even, to survive. It's when you just want to put up your feet and have a tall drink, some yummy food and watch your favorite guilty pleasure on T.V. To achieve goals, you can't waste much time looking and wishing for what others have. So even though I don't suppose I will ever have more than that very rare day of pure, undiluted, relaxation and time for what I want to do, that's OK because I subscribe to the following goal achieving mind sets!
Today is Motivating Monday!  We all need a little motivation!  I, for one, love to explore other sites for motivating, mostly non-sponsored posts, tips, pictures and videos!  If I happen to find a great one, I'll link it up and share it with you here and on Twitter via the #MotivatingMonday hashtag!  It's like being featured!  Sometimes I miss some amazing posts.  So, in addition, if you'd like to link up yourself, you can do that too!  I'll visit your site, comment, promote and publicize! Don't be shy--I'm really very supportive!  Remember, any link to your posts helps your blog numbers increase!

It Just Depends! #Underwareness + Free Sample

Have you ever laughed so hard you cried? Yes? Me too! What about laughing so hard you peed? C'mon you know you have! Me too! Everyone has a bladder leakage story and here's mine:

The other day I was walking my dog, Evee, and all of a sudden I had to go. I guess I drank too much water before leaving. (Is 6 oz. really too much?) I kept walking anyway, feeling that it shouldn't be that hard to hold it until I got back home. The pollen in the air was something else that day! I sneezed.....Uh oh, my walk was shorter that day than I planned!

Seriously, though, there were some real complications for me that day. It should have been a pretty simple scenario! But it wasn't, because I didn't anticipate some minor bladder leakage. First of all, do I really need to limit my water intake these days before I head out on a walk? And do I need to make sure that there are no traces of pollen in the air, in case I sneeze? I'm here to tell you, it doesn't need to be that complicated!

I don't need to feel like I'm the only one, either, because according to non-formal studies and surveys, I'm just one in millions of women who aren't in the "old" category and who experience light bladder leakage. How many to be exact? Over 51 million! That's 1 in 3 women! Actually more ladies with bladder leakage problems are 50 or younger versus 60 or older! In fact – more ladies with bladder issues are in their 20s than 80s! I know this statistic surprised me but also made me feel so much more like I'm normal.

Underwareness
It seems relevant that I was contacted by the Depend Company to help raise awareness! Depend is entering year #2 of Underwareness, a social movement and charitable cause to break down the bladder leakage stigma.

So I wanted to check out what all the fuss is about...women taking off their pants, women raving about how these new briefs are just like you're wearing underwear with the same thickness, the same rise, the great beige and black colors... I went to my local WalMart and picked up the Depend for Women Silhouette Active Fit, Moderate Absorbency Briefs in S/M, 12 Count.

This is what I found:
What's Inside The Box?
They feel like they are made to be absorbent, and they are, but they look exactly like a brief. They are perfect for when you're in places where there won't be restroom access for awhile or when you're doing sports or being active for an hour or longer. They are even good for yoga! It certainly beats the alternative--not being able to do what you had planned on doing!

Bladder leakage happens and I encourage you to visit www.Underwareness.com to support the cause* and request a free sample of Depend Silhouette Active Fit. Try it for yourself!

*For every photo and video shared using #Underwareness and featuring Depend products, the Depend brand will donate $1, up to $3 million, through 2016 to fund charities that advance the research and education of bladder leakage.

Summer Grilling Tips And ($150) #Giveaway

There's nothing like a tried and true recipe. You just can't improve on perfection. I'm really impressed with Stubbs BBQ Sauces, Marinades and Rubs. Also, check out the great tips for the perfect barbecue! No more elusive hints at how it's supposed to be!
Now that the warmer weather is upon us, it’s prime time to get out and barbecue. Rocky Stubblefield, Stubb’s Legendary Bar-B-Q brand ambassador and grandson of founder C.B. “Stubb” Stubblefield, offers a few tips and recipes he’s picked up over the years to make you the grilling hero of any barbecue, family gathering or even weeknight dinner. Stubb’s is the maker of authentic, premium, BBQ sauces, rubs and marinades and was founded by C.B. “Stubb” Stubblefield in 1968.
Stubb didn’t just make barbecue, he made friends, serving up his slow-smoked brisket, cole slaw and beans, all with his wide, trademark smile at his restaurant in Lubbock, Texas. It was during this time that Stubb first began bottling his now famous sauces at the request of his friends.
Rocky’s Grilling Tips
rockygrilling Today, Stubb’s heritage lives on in his legendary sauces, marinades and rubs, continuing to make people feel good all over the world.
  • Use indirect cooking for larger meats (indirect is cooking away from the fire), and direct cooking for smaller meats (direct is cooking over the fire).
  • When marinating, beef chicken and pork can be marinated up to two days in a refrigerator. You should only marinate seafood for a few hours.
  • When using charcoal, allow coals to ash over before adding meat to the grill.
  • When cooking burgers, make a thumbprint in the middle of the patty before putting it on the grill. This will help the patty come out nice and flat (not puffy in the middle) and the meat will be cooked evenly throughout.
  stubbstoasted

  • Soak vegetables in cold water before grilling – it keeps them from burning or drying out too fast.
  • For a juicier steak, let your meat rest for at least 10 minutes after it is done to allow the juices that were forced into the center of the meat when cooking to distribute throughout the steak.
grilledribeye
  • Don’t cook ribs ‘til they are falling off the bone – ribs should be grilled until they begin to pull away from the bone, but you should be able to bite into and leave a bite mark as you eat it off the bone. Overcooked ribs become dried out and less flavorful – even a little bit mushy.
sweetribeye
Clean grill after every use. You can use a ball of foil or an onion – just cut the onion in half, and while the grill is heating up, rubs the onion across it. The juices from the onion clean the grill and get it ready for use.
Now for the fun part! Head below for your chance to enter the giveaway below to win a personalized grilling set, Stubb’s branded spatula Stubb’s heavy duty, hand-carved cedar wood cutting board, Stubb’s hat, bag, T-shirt and $30 in Stubb’s coupons this fantastic set is worth $150! #Utah Jurassic World Roar #Giveaway 5 Prize Packs

Hello Gal Pals! I'm helping to promote this amazing giveaway with some of my fellow Utah bloggers! Are you planning on coming to Utah on Vacation this year? Do you already live in Utah? These prize packs will give you access to some of the hottest venues in the state! And of course, in keeping with the theme, 'Jurassic World'! Enter here at A GAL NEEDS...and your valid entries will be counted at the time of the winning draw!  Good luck!

Giveaway | Jurassic World | Roar

Did you know that Utah is a Dinosaur Fossil gold mine?! I mean, Utah, it's a big deal.

So big in fact, that the Utahraptor was found right here in Moab, Utah. That's right people, we have our own dinosaur. It's also a cousin of the Velociraptor in Jurassic Park. Utah has a lot of dinosaur history, so we've compiled a list of our favorite Dinosaur Museums. You'll definetly want to add these museums to your summer bucket list.

Natural History Museum of Utah | Salt Lake City

The Natural History Museum of Utah has the world's largest and only display of 14 ceratopsian (horned) dinosaur skulls. The Museum collection is super unique because nearly all the specimens are from Utah and at least 15 of them are new to science since 2000!

They also have the Lythronax (similar to tyrannasaurus) that was found in Southern Utah and can only be found on display here in Utah!

Museum of Ancient Life | Thanksgiving Point | Lehi

The Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point has 60 complete dinosaur skeletons and is one of the largest dinosaur museums in the world. You've probably driven by it and seen the giant tyrannasaurus rex on the building.

Ogden Eccles Dinosaur Park | Ogden

Tucked in the mouth of Weber Canyon, you'll find dinosaurs hidden throughout the brush by the Weber River. Watch paleontologist clean off fossils or dig for some gems in the cave. The Jurassic-World-like playground will have your kids playing for hours!

St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site | St. George

This museum just opened up in 2000 and is family-friendly. It's built over dinosaur footprints that you can see through the floor. Best part? The footprints were found right here in Utah. It's a small museum, but it is jam packed with fossils! Be sure to schedule a tour, we hear that's the way to visit.
National Geographic just did a story on all the new species that are coming out of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Southern Utah and all the pieces are sent to the Utah Museum of Natural History. Pretty cool right?
So cool in fact, that we've got a giant giveaway!

Sabbatical Sunday: How I Combat The Summer Rush, Or Any Rush

It is such a busy and rushed world these days. Summer is now upon us, the kids are out of school and we have plans, plans, plans.

I raised my sons in a very rural part of Virginia. We were transplants and hadn't been there long. We didn't have a lot of connections or social engagements. A lot of our summers were spent doing very simple things. We took walks, we played with various toys, we listened to the insects singing in the evening and we had fun with the sprinklers and our dog. Many times, I let my oldest son go out into the rather thick woods next to our home, it was called 'Black Forest Estates' for good reason. He had many an adventure, but thankfully never got hurt.

All in all it was very relaxing. Don't get me wrong, we also had camp, play dates, baseball practice and other fun things. I'm just saying that every single section of our months weren't planned with big engagements and vacations.

When asked what his favorite part of the summers were, my oldest talks about the things above. He talks about when I spent time with him, his time having adventures in the woods and times spent together as a family.

Now he's in the National Guard at Officers Training School. And when he's done with his day, he likes to go and commune with nature. He loves hiking, hunting and fishing. All of these activities are done alone and in the quiet of nature.

I am an undiagnosed, but most likely ADD adult, who is very distracted by noises, comings, goings, hustle, and bustle. I must get away for a period of time each day to get a breather from it all. I have done this for a long time now, have made my own ritual. My dog, Evee, is an essential part of my present routine. I go on hikes with her, away from the well-traveled trails of the local park. We go out where fewer people venture. Less traveled, probably, because there is wild life and one can never predict what one will come upon when you're out so far. But my dog is a companion and she is a protector. We help each other. I walk her daily and she protects me as I take a few minutes in our travels to stop, sit, meditate and pray. It gives me strength and fuels my creativity and my plans. I know there is an inner voice that I am able to hear, listen to, and then to follow. A very wise man and esteemed apostle said:

If you don't have a time during your day to just stop and be at one with silence, with the intent to listen to your calm, still, inner voice, I highly suggest you try it. Try going out on a walk, in the early morning or late evening. Find a nice, quiet place to sit for a few minutes. If you aren't too distracted by things around your home, find a quiet place specifically for quiet reflection and meditation. Set it up with whatever you need to sustain calm, focused, thought. Spend at least 10-15 minutes thinking about calm things. Let the thoughts be healing and positive in nature. Focus on your relationship with God. Pray, if that is in your practice. You will be enriched after you make it a part of your routine. You will begin to crave it, because of the strength and focus it brings into your life.

A Great Father's Day Gift - The Gift Of Time!

So I decided to give my man a watch for Father's Day. He's come such a long way from 3 and a half months ago. I was so pleased when Woodie Specs decided to let me work with them on a review, providing me with the Red Sandalwood Men's Watch!

The watch comes in a beautiful wooden box with their name engraved on it.
When you open it, the beauty of hand-crafted wood shines out and draws you toward it!
I really love the look of masculinity it gives to my husband. I think it makes him look good, really good! To think that a few months ago, his face was bashed in from a biking accident. He is much deserving of this watch, and actually much more, but I digress.

When you receive the watch, it needs to be fitted. We took it to a local watch store and had that done. They did it while we waited and charged us $10, not too bad! Some places charge $20--it's all at their discretion.

They are not waterproof but ARE water resistant, but only to light splashes that are wiped off right away.  Keep in mind that since each piece is slightly different in size, they won't be 100% sealed like a metal watch. For example, Don't take them in the shower, jump in a pool, or walk around in the rain. Don't worry about washing your hands or getting light splashes on your watch. Just make sure to wipe liquid off quickly to ensure the wood lasts.

Woodie Specs also sells Wooden Sunglasses that also provide a unique fashion statement. That is something that is definitely on my wish list!
All in all, I am very impressed with this company, based out of L.A. They believe in giving back and they sponsor kids in need around the world through an organization called WorldVision.org, They have great service, work great through social media, have quality products, so I am definitely giving it A GAL NEEDS...thumbs up!

You're Only Human + Motivating Monday

Sometimes I cringe when I think about some of the mistakes I made in parenting. My youngest just graduated from high school. I remember, when he was younger, trying to make him write a journal. As someone who was an avid journal keeper when younger, I wanted him to have something to look back on. But he just didn't want to do it. I reasoned, begged, wheedled, threatened, withheld privileges, but nothing worked! I still have the journal that I wrote for him, because he wouldn't do it on his own.

Does he regret not writing a journal now? Heck no! Will he later, when I am dead and gone? I would like to think so...but probably not! Was it a mistake to waste so much time and energy (it was a lot) trying to make him do something that he had no interest in? Yes, I think we could have had more quality time together doing something he enjoyed. Does he call me out on it repeatedly? Nah, he forgot about it. I'm the one who remembers....

Something I've noticed picking up steam is that people are not willing to forgive human mistakes. They are more likely to jump on someone perceived to have done something stupid or intolerant and air it out on social media, where others can jump in, like a pack of wild dogs, and tear, gnash and gnaw on that person until they have literally destroyed their life.

It's as if they, themselves, have never acted stupidly or intolerantly. They have to wring every last bit of justice out, so they can walk away, self-righteously, like the fully-satisfied beasts of prey they are. But the satisfaction won't stay, and they will be back on the prowl until they find their next victim.

No wonder many people are so reluctant to voice their opinions. With such vicious wolves out there, who wants to expose themselves to feral attacks and unsuppressed vitriol? Very brave souls indeed, I would say.

Hair Care Tips For A Dry Climate

Of the top beauty concerns for women, hair is in the top 5!

Everyone wants healthy-looking, shiny and strong hair. Regardless of whether you have long or short hair, straight or curly hair, there are definitely ways to give your hair an advantage, depending on the climate where you live.
For those of us who live in the dry states--Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Idaho, Nebraska, Minnesota, Kansas, North Dakota, and South Dakota--there are a whole different set of hair problems than those who live in wet states. If you live in one of these dry states, or if you live in a dry climate, keep reading!
In dry climates, the air is depleted of moisture and your hair can't absorb it from the air, making it prone to dryness, frizziness, brittleness, dullness, and breakage. So what is the mode of operation for dry state gals? We dump all kinds of moisturizing products onto the hair!

I use a lot of hair oil, leave-in conditioners,  deep conditioners, hair masks, along with moisturizing shampoos, pomades, and sun protectors. After awhile, however, the hair shaft becomes loaded up with all of this product as I discovered. It is then that your hair becomes dull, slow to grow, and limp.

It is important to balance your routine with both moisturizing products and purifying products, to rid your hair of build-up. I found a great purifying product when I was given some products from the NAAT Garlic Magic Set from NuNAAT, a hair company researching and utilizing natural sources from around the globe.
Benefits Of Garlic - This naturally powerful antibiotic removes harmful toxins and offers relief to the dry, itchy scalp. It also releases an enzyme, called allinase. When crushed, allinase stimulates blood flow, which then strengthens the hair and prevents breakage. It is also known to increase body and shine.

My experience - I tried the Naat Garlic Magic Shampoo, the Naat Garlic Magic Conditioner, and the Naat Garlic Magic Leave-In Conditioner.  Of course, seeing that garlic was one of the top ingredients in this shampoo, I, at first wondered if there might be a rather pungent, distinctive, smell. I was pleased to find that it was very fragrant and that no one would suspect that there was garlic in my shampoo! When I used the shampoo, I noticed that my hair actually squeaked after one use. I guess it had been awhile for me to feel my hair that clean because of all the moisturizing products I have been adding to my hair-care routine. The conditioner seemed light and refreshing, and not very heavy. And the same with the leave-in conditioner. I didn't feel like there was any build-up at all.

Results -  My hair seemed shinier and stronger, with more body. I was really pleased! I want to continue to use these products as part of my dry climate hair care arsenal, so that my hair will look its best.

NuNaat has hair products, however, for all types of climates and all types of hair! They believe that everyone can have great hair, regardless of the hair type or climate.

You can follow NuNaat on Twitter and Facebook! This blog received the products mentioned above for review purposes. All opinions are our own!
