Gina Parker PR - NOT!

How many of you have heard the name Gina Parker, PR?  I had been hearing about it and had almost participated in one of her events, but didn't.  But then I heard about this $1000 giveaway for one lucky winner! Participants were giving $5, $10 and $20 to list their individual sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc. Those who entered the giveaway were asked to follow any or all sites on the list and also tweet about the giveaway. Well, this was all a ruse and anyone who paid Gina Parker was duped.  There is now no giveaway link, no linky for entrants to continue entering, no $1000 to be given away and no site.   All have disappeared.  Hey, I guess I was a sucker too.  I was actually going to post about the difference between taking part in Blogtastic with Jessica at My Silly Monkeys and this one a week ago.  Now, I just need to say that the difference is Blogtastic was legit and Gina Parker's Social Media & Small Biz Hop was a scam!  Blogtastic was so much fun! We got the chance to meet a lot of great bloggers, hook up with some great sponsors, get a few more fabulous followers and it was totally free!  The only thing we needed to do was come up with our own sponsors or our own prize pack, worth $50.  With Gina Parker's crazy "Social Media and Small Business Hop" you had to pay for the chance to participate with the hopes of winning the big prize and maybe get a few followers from it.
I was also harrassed to be in Blogmania, initially run by Ms. Parker, and I frankly just didn't have the time.  I'm so glad I didn't do it, or pay any money.

I got a sick, sinking feeling in my gut when I couldn't find the contest website anymore. She hung around long enough to get fairly well known around the blogosphere and then made her pathetic move. I, for one, will be very skeptical about any event that requires payment to participate. No doubt "Gina Parker" will attempt to morph into yet another another "Mom Blogger" and try to scam everyone again. She definitely should be prosecuted and severely punished so that she and others like her will think twice before trying this again. Our faith and goodwill have been terribly eroded because of one bad apple. So sad...
I now have a firm new philosophy, thanks to Gina Parker PR.  That is, I will not pay money for gaining followers.  How stupid, in the first place.  Am I so insecure about my blogging abilities that I have to resort to that?  Time to take a break and evaluate why I am blogging.  I shouldn't be in a competition with anyone to get more followers, anyway!  And I typically am not, but it just makes me mad that I was so naiive to just plunk down $30 (yes, 30 friggin dollars) to someone I only vaguely know of in print.  I think I was coming off the high of Blogtastic that I wanted it to continue!  It's almost as if the fact that "Gina Parker" could express herself on the cyberspace web page and that made it OK to trust her pitches and just throw over $30 to her.  I should have given it away to my readers already here!  Sheesh!  I could have put up another great cash giveaway for that!  Let that be a lesson to me.  I already have 830 or so fabulous followers.  What, isn't that enough?  I can't even keep track of most of you. Why in the world would I want to pay for more?
I already have more wonderful giveaways than I can keep up with.  My sponsors have been fabulous, my readers have been patient and haven't desserted me because I don't post every single day or just have one or two giveaways up right now (albeit some really good ones).  Excuse me, you know I'm busy like you are!

Anyway, I think I'll just chalk this one up as another lesson learned in the world of blogging, and hopefully some of you will learn from my mistake(s) and avoid a pitfall.  Frankly, I hope Gina Parker, PR enjoys her money, has a good time spending it and then gets it all back in bad karma!

Hugs,

Helena

http://twitter.com/#!/uberabby2/status/36891860479778816  Thank you all very much for entering and please enter my book giveaway - Alpine Weight Loss Secrets!

Here it is!  My highly anticipated (at least by me!) CSN $75 Gift Code Giveaway. I hope that you know who CSN is by now.  If not, let me enlighten you.  CSN has 200+ stores, they have free shipping on a whole bunch of their items, great customer service, and better selection than many specialty stores have for items you are looking for.  Just type in the general term in the search area, and voila!  You will get 100's of results in most cases.  You can narrow it down or target specific items or brands after that.  One of my all-time favorite areas at CSN is the cookware.com sight!  It makes one giddy to see how many casserole dishes they have, for instance!

So enjoy looking around the CSN website and salivate at all the many wonderful things you can get at great prices and some even with no shipping!  And since I mentioned searching for the item you want, let's explore how to do that.  Let's pretend that you want to search for a pie pan...and while you're at it, you can enter to win a $75 CSN Gift Code!

First and Mandatory Entry:  Follow me on Google Friend Connect and visit Pie Pans on CSN. Go to Narrow Your Results on the left sidebar and find something you want based on a search from that.  What search did you do and what item did you choose?

We Love Colors Giveaway!

The two winners of this giveaway are:  #95 and #76!  Congratulations, you have also been notified by e-mail!

We Love Colors is tights in 51 great colors!  It is also knee highs, thigh highs, knee socks, leggings, dancewear, men's dancewear and tights, kid's tights, fishnets, splash tights, and more!  I like We Love Colors because of their easy order system, and quick delivery.  They cater to any and all sizes!

I find these tights to be really soft, comfy, and durable. They come in a wide range of sizes and when I first put them on I was worried they could be too big. But they didn't roll down or sag like some tights do. They would be great for those on the taller side. But, I'm 5'5 and they are perfect for me. I can really see them getting a lot of wear in this chilly Utah weather!

To find your perfect tight size, first pick which kind of tights you want here.  Next look at the sizing options for this item.  Some items are one size fits all and others are broken down into sizes.  Also check for availability.  Right now, apparently, the demand for leggings is extremely high and some of the leggings options are currently out of stock.  But still there are lots of options even in the leggings department.
I made a really fun discovery when I happened upon the We Love Colors Style Blog!  If you want inspiration on how to wear your tights, this would be it!  Check it out!
I highly recommend We Love Colors and suggest that you try some!
2 readers will win a pair of nylon/lycra tights from We Love Colors by entering below:
Mandatory entry: First, be my follower on Google Friend Connect and then Visit the We Love Colors Style Blog and find some inspiration.  Come back and leave me a link of a picture you like and were inspired by!

  • Follow We Love Colors on Twitter and Tweet about this giveaway!  Tweet daily for one entry per day! Leave your tweet permalink each time you do!  You can use the tweet button at the bottom of this post to tweet or tweet this:

This Much Fun and More To Come!

Thanks for everyone's patience until I got back from work to make the big announcements.  I tell you, maybe I ought to go to numbered comments.  I had to count through twice for each winner, just to make sure that I was on count.  I picked one winner from my main entry page and one winner from my extra entry page.  The only catch being that on the extra entry page, they needed to have also entered on the main entry page.  And on the main entry page, they only should have entered one comment on that page and that was which package they preferred.  Both of my winners did so great!  They entered correctly, which said to me that it really wasn't rocket science to enter correctly!  One just needed to read the directions.  So, here are the winners!   Prize package #1, Sporty You, goes to: #129 on my main entry page.

Prize package #2, Feminine You, goes to: #104 on my extra entry page.

I Love, You Love, We Love Colors! {Review}

One of the reasons I like winter is because it is the greatest time to wear tights!  They are fun and add pizazz  to a wardrobe, not to mention warmth!  Depending on the quality and fit, they are very comfortable too.  We Love Colors, inc. is a family run business that makes tights, and when I say tights, I mean tights of every color and style. I actually have been admiring this particular company from afar for quite awhile!  Founded in 2003, We Love Colors specializes in selling tights, leggings, dancewear, fishnets, socks, and they do it for men, women and children of all ages and sizes!

We Love Colors has so many color and style options and leaves the door open for so much creativity.  I am amazed at all the wonderful combinations that can be made with a simple pair of tights!  Here are some of my favorites!
I was a wussy and ordered the light gray nylon/lycra tights instead of a more crazy bold pattern.  They are so comfortable and made me crave more!  So I ordered the gray tights and love them! Next time I’m going nuts and will order some thigh highs!
We Love Colors comes in the largest selection of 51 different colors, 13 splash colors, Zebra prints, checker tights and stripped tights.  I love the soft feel of the material.  It is definitely the softest pair of tights I've ever owned.  Then my interest is piqued when I look at the Croche Fishnet tights!  Super cute pattern!   And here we have the problem with reviewing a great company like We Love Colors!  I get slightly drunk with all of the endless possibilities and end up spending way more time and money than I had ever intended on spending in the first place.  Damn you, We Love Colors!  Another obsession!  Another item that I definitely, most definitely will have to put into the NEED category.

A Look Back For CSNStores.com and Giveaway Announcement!

2010 was extra good to CSN Stores.  This year they climbed up the rankings from 63 to 61 of the top 500 Internet Retailers by Internet Retailer Magazine.  That is in contrast to some other companies who compete with the retail internet giant!  They haven't seen the success or growth that CSNStores.com has!

I believe there are several reasons for the success of this entity!  First of all, the stores have a great rapport with the blogging community!  They have been and continue to be very generous with bloggers who can write a decent review of the stores.  They give the bloggers a choice--basically they can either receive a gift certificate to write a post or bloggers may host a giveaway for their audience.  Most bloggers are aware of the great giveaways that CSNStores is able to drive and that, in turn, creates a loyal following!

Next, CSNStores.com is very highly ranked on the Google Search site.  For instance, if you want or need a Bed, you can put out a search for that and most likely you will see at the top of the search results BedroomFurniture.com, which is one of the over 200 CSN Stores!  It is really quite remarkable how CSN began with only two employees, Naraj Shah and Steve Conine in 2002, and now boasts over 600 employees, making it one of the top three home and office goods e-tailers in the United States!

Yet another reason for their great success is their great customer service!  I have seen many people praise the customer service department for either giving them great prices because CSN wants to be competitive with any and all competition or for accepting exchanges and returns cheerfully without a lot of hassle. When I placed an order for my laptop messenger bag, it came within a few days and I was very happy with the quality!  And the price was right!

I'm excited for a couple of reasons!  First of all, I will be opening up another great $75 giveaway very soon and I always like the hustle bustle that these events generate on my blog! I'm also really excited because CSN will be opening up a really large branch of their retail store in my state of Utah!  It will employ over 250 people with benefits.  Thanks so much CSNStores.com

Alpine Weight Loss Secrets! {Review}

I am really excited about a book I was introduced to a week ago. Its called Alpine Weight Loss Secrets by Stefan Aschan!  Was one of your New Years resolutions to get into shape?  Have you taken out a gym membership or resolved to get back to the gym to lose weight and get your best body yet?  That was me last year.  I actually went to the gym quite a bit~but to not much avail.  I barely managed to maintain my mildly overweight frame and spent a lot of time wishing I was somewhere else or that I didnt have to go.  However, this year I decided not to do this mundane thing to myself.  A gym takes so much time.  Its not just the workout itself, its the changing into the gym clothing, the getting there in the car, the waiting around for equipment or for class to start, driving back afterwards, yada yada yadaSo a one-hour workout for me could easily become a time investment of 2 hours.  An extra hour each time I work out is a huge time investment.  After all, Ive got blogging to do (which is part of my problem, I admit)!  This year I decided not to renew my gym membership.  Ive got the internet, TV, and the great outdoors to design my own exercise program.  And now, Ive got another resource that I will totally put into useIts called Alpine Weight Loss Secrets by Stefan Aschan, Europes premier  Youngevity Coach!  Why is the term youngevity used?  Because living a long life isnt the ultimate goal.  One also wants to live life with the ability to be an active participant!   Let me tell you, I learned so much from this book and it solidified my belief that you dont need to punish yourself to keep in shape!  You just need to be smart about it and have the tools.  As a matter of fact, when following Stefans guidelines, I can see how one will feel rewarded as she/he gets in better and better shape and ultimately into the best shape of their life, no matter what age!

Heres what a client said after going through his program:
Susan Hudson, 51
Thank you for changing my life. Post-menopausal, at 51 I thought all I had to look forward to was a downhill slump of more sagging and drooping. In less than two months your exercises and nutritional recipes have helped me to lose the fat, restore tone and muscle to my body, and have given me more energy than I have had in 20 years. I went from 145 lbs to 125 lbs. My friends tell me I look 35, and I have the energy I had at 20. And my sexual appetite has been rekindled!  You are a miracle worker. By the way have you got another recipe for chicken that I can try?
The beauty about this program is that it is not only for over 40 adults but for younger men and women as well!  Everyone can see "not just great results but stunning results!"

Stefan came to the U.S. in 1997 after people told him that the United States could use him because of his progressive and advanced ideas regarding physical fitness.  He knows how to duplicate the great health and lean physiques of the people who live the Alpine Way of life for us folks who live in obese America.  America has done its citizens no favors in the health arena.  We have bad convenience foods, bad sedentary habits, and the best excuses as to why we cant get off our rear ends of any people in the world!   Stefan grew up around Vienna, Austria, in a small village called Streifing.  The daily activities included trekking to neighboring villages either by foot or bike, playing with his friends, working on the village farms, ice skating, skiing, racing, and just having fun outdoors.  The terrain there has very steep hills, even mountains at a high altitude.  And of course there are also the valleys.  This is definitely an Alpine environment.

In my small village, there was always something physical to do. Most summer
days we would ride our bikes over to our friend’s house, which was a few
villages and about five steep hills away, and then we’d race or go swimming. At
harvest time, we helped farmers bring in their crops, hoisting bales of hay onto
trucks, and crushing the grapes they grew. Most kids learned to ski and ice
skate a day or two after they learned to walk, and so did I. (Okay, I’m exaggerating;
it was really a week after!) It was just another way to stay active throughout
winter. Looking back, I realize that my active, sports-filled childhood could not have been better training for the life I lead today as a fitness expert.  Stefan Aschan

In Alpine Weight Loss Secrets, new and fresh ideas about food are introduced.  The 60 recipes are amazing because they take beautiful, fresh foods and teach you step-by-step how to keep them healthy and make them taste yummy!  You will have access to over 16 exercises that have 3 different levels so you can choose which level is right for you!  There is a section on how to flatten your belly and its NOT with exercise.  There are at least 10 worksheets for you to put these new ideas in concrete form, making them easier to follow through with!
After reviewing this book, I am anxious to go back and really digest it and go for some of these life-changing habits!  I can hardly wait!  For more information, also go to his website!

I'd like to thank Stefan for letting me have an online copy of his book to review!  All of the opinions in this review are mine!

SANITY VS. VANITY

Are you crazy about being tan? If you are, you're not alone. Women, especially under the age of 35 and even men are very captivated by the bronze glow that laying in a tanning bed brings!  Over the past 20 years tanning beds have become ever more popular, casting ultraviolet light on a person's body in as little as 10-minute increments and provide a bronze glow - the quintessential Western image of beauty.  However, there has been a debate going on between tanning professionals and concerned researchers, citizens and parents about the danger of tanning booths.  Many scientists are now saying that tanning booths may be even more harmful than direct exposure to sunlight, a point which is strongly contested by the tanning professionals!  They say that indoor UV light is a better option because it limits sun exposure and helps the body protect against too much sun by building up a melanin layer at the top of the skin.  The melanin fliters out the UVA and UVB rays.

Regardless of the rhetoric, if I knew that I was at a higher risk of melanoma because I had a certain gene mutation,CDKN2A, of which 67 percent of all melanomas result from its presence, I think I'd avoid tanning beds AND sun exposure, even if it meant no bronzed glow for me!  That is what the advocates of genetic testing for children and adolescents are saying - that kids would make wiser choices if they knew for a fact what their genetics said about it!  The down side would be that screening at such a young age might compromise their freedom of choice and maybe bring on worries and fears about their increased risk of getting cancer.  It can also be an expensive procedure and is not always covered by insurance!

For Maryann Gerber, the choice is a no-brainer.  She began using tanning beds at age 20.  For 4 years, she went almost weekly. She noticed that she had a mole on her cheek and fortunately the same vanity that led her to the booths, led her to a plastic surgeon to have the mole removed.  She got a call a day later, informing her that she had melanoma.  10 years later, many scars on her face and back and multiple mole removals have changed her philosophy about wanting to be tan.
Maryann immediately after surgery
She now speaks around the state of Utah, urging youth to always wear sunblock and get regular check-ups to catch any indications of melanoma early enough to treat it.  When she has children of her own, she definitely plans to use all the precautions with them, as well as genetic testing so that they will be fully armed with knowledge for prevention.

She has been through too much to see it again in someone she loves...

Blogtastic Extravaganza!

It's time to let you know about Blogtastic, happening this month from January 18th - 22nd!  Over 100 blogs have come together under the umbrella of Blogtastic to bring a fantastic array of prizes from many different companies.  Each blog will have their own theme, so there will be something for everyone and it will be easy to tell which blogs you would like to visit based on your interests and the themes each blog has!  My theme will be 'A GAL NEEDS...Something To Wear!'  I absolutely think that after the holidays, in the cold weather, that you need something to wear that is right for the season.  For me, that would be something incredibly warm and fuzzy!  There have also been a lot of college games and why not have something cute to wear representing your Alma Mater?  Then there is always the never-ending work, school and getting out in which you need a great outfit to step out in.  And of course, you're going to need a great accessory, like a headband, or cute hat to set you apart from the rest!  It will all be here, with 4 great companies, 4 great prizes, 4 great things to wear!  They will be divided into two prize packages and will be worth approx. $90 - $100 each!

Prize Pack I:

eShakti -  Will give away a custom dress of your choice!

Spunky Junky - Will give away a headband from her Etsy shop!

Prize Pack II:

meesh & mia - will give away one sweater of your choice from their in-stock current licensed college apparel!

Uptown Girls Too - Will give away a black, distressed bling baseball cap in black like the one I have here!  I love this hat!

Be thinking about which prize package you'd like to win!  In the meantime, I will soon be putting up an early entry post for those who want a head start!  So stay tuned, have a looksie at the sites that I mentioned above and also go look at some of the other sites that will be doing Blogtastic!  See you there on January 18th!
