I love to blog. While I love both my blogs, currently I am more intent on this one, as I am enthralled with the world of giveaways. However, as I spend more time blogging and less time walking around and doing things, I can tell the difference. My body isn't responding to my exercise routines like before. I seem to be losing some muscle tone. I am a dancer (middle-eastern, zumba, modern and ballet), biker, yoga lover, hiker, disc golfer, skier, and the reason is because I have always exercised and made time to do so. I love pushing my body to just the right amount of fatigue to where I know I've been challenged, but not so that it takes days on end to recover. In other words, I don't do marathons, but I like to exercise. But I feel like I'm in danger of losing some (or a lot) of that, as I continue to make staying on the computer more of a priority.
For me, exercise is a means to an end. I don't mean necessarily the end result of being thin. (I don't think I'll ever accomplish that--I like to eat a little too much) By all means, if that ever occurs as a by-product of exercise, then I will welcome it! But more important to me is the preservation of muscle, the circulation of the blood to prevent heart problems, diabetes, and any number of health related problems. Did you know that exercise is considered the #1 anti-aging thing you can do for yourself?
My hubby forwarded an article to me from Yahoo health that I really needed. It's called Sitting Too Much Can Be Deadly. (Do you think he was trying to tell me something? Not sure...) Well if reading that doesn't scare me into getting off the computer and getting more exercise, nothing will.
So, based on the recommendations of the article, I have decided to get off my duff every 3 hours (believe me, I can stay on the computer for 6 hours straight when I get on a roll) and do a 20-minute exercise routine.3x daily. This will be in addition to walking my faithful border collie, Evie, 5 days a week, plus yoga 2-3 times per week. That should keep the blood flowing and me from gaining more than the usual winter weight (of which I have come to expect between 5 and 8 lbs.), and keep my body ready to do the things I love to do when the time comes to do them.
I hope that you, my fellow lady bloggers, will do the same and make time for all-important exercise. It will give your bodies and eyes the rest they need and your mind time to think new thoughts and create bright and fresh ideas.

Ugh, I know I sit at the computer too much. I need to get motivated to get off my butt!
I try not to be on the computer more then 2 hours at a time. I like to get my housework and my exercise done in between. I noticed that if I don't do that by bedtime my body is numb and I am feeling really yucky.
Yep, me too!

Exercise is so important. Unfortunately, I don't get near enough during the winter. There is no way I could fit in 3 sessions a day! Way to go!
Glad to have found you from Friday Follow!

I agree! In my defense, I chase my 3 kids around, the dog, the housework, and my job keeps me on my feet for 12 hours at a time. Not to say that I don't need to lose some pounds because I do. I will try to heed your advice!

It's funny - I tell myself that it's good to stay on the computer for hours on end because it helps relieve my stress. But you're right - I have to do a better job of pulling back my chair and getting some exercise. I, too, have noticed that when I DO things, I get tired quicker. Thanks! You have inspired me!
I could easily sit at the computer for hours as well, however now with a 1 year old who is constantly on the run, I'm lucky to get 5 minutes at the computer! :)
I cannot believe how many things I'm finding in common with you, just reading your blog posts. I have also read before similar articles about how sitting all day is harmful to your health. It's too bad my job requires sitting & being at the computer all day, but I do try to take breaks often, and walk around a bit before returning to my seat. Having a dog gives me extra inspiration to go on longer walks outside too!
I find the same, I could sit on the computer for a couple hours at a time and not really getting out to exercise. However, for me with 4 young boys, they interrupt and get me up and moving quite often, which is great.

Well my job also requires a lot of sitting, but, I never sit more than an hour at a time. I set my Outlook e-mail bell and it reminds to get up and do something else. I am a computer technician and could easily sit all day!
I can be so bad about forgetting about time when I'm blogging. I can say I have skinny fingers, but a big butt!!! Exercise can be my best friend and you have inspired me!!! I'm going to try riding my bike each morning before getting on the computer. THANKS!!!
